UCC Coalition EventsGrowing BoldThe UCC Coalition's 2009 National Gathering will be held June 22–25, 2009, prior to the UCC General Synod in Grand Rapids, MI. The theme for this year's gathering is "Growing BOLD." It will be a celebration of Open and Affirming, exploration of what ONA can be in its fullest expression, worship, fellowship, celebration and engagement. UCC eventsThe first Children & Families Multicultural Festival (a 27th General Synod Pre-Synod Event) is scheduled for Thursday, June 25, 2009, at St. John's Church, UCC, in Grand Rapids, MI, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The theme for the Children & Families Multicultural Festival is "Immerse Yourself in Friendship!" Regional Coalition/ONA effortsOn July 24, 2009, from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm, at Ohio Wesleyan University, in Delaware, OH, you are invited to Snapshots and Strategies for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, and Queer Inclusion Across Denominations, sponsored by the Ohio Chapter of the UCC Coalition as a part of the pre-conference events at the Ohio Conference of the UCC Annual Meeting. The Rev. Candace Chellew-Hodge will keynote and participate in a panel discussion with representatives of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the American Baptist Churches(U.S.A.), concerning the state of inclusion in various denominations. Despite media portrayals suggesting complete disapproval, ordained African-American pastors and ministers are given the opportunity at a Town Hall Meeting in Oakland, CA, to speak openly about their reasons for supporting the inclusion of same-sex couples, their rights to marry, and their being active members of their individual congregations. "Doing Our Own Work: A Seminar for Anti-Racist White People" will be offered by Melanie Morrison and Aaron Wilson-Ahlstrom, July 7–12, 2009, at Tower Hill Camp and Retreat Center in Sawyer, MI.
