UCC Coalition Events

Growing Bold

The UCC Coalition's 2009 National Gathering will be held June 2225, 2009, prior to the UCC General Synod in Grand Rapids, MI. The theme for this year's gathering is "Growing BOLD." It will be a celebration of Open and Affirming, exploration of what ONA can be in its fullest expression, worship, fellowship, celebration and engagement. UCC events

The first Children & Families Multicultural Festival (a 27th General Synod Pre-Synod Event) is scheduled for Thursday, June 25, 2009, at St. John's Church, UCC, in Grand Rapids, MI, beginning at 1:00 p.m.  The theme for the Children & Families Multicultural Festival is "Immerse Yourself in Friendship!" The Coalition's National Gathering will conclude on Thursday in time for families to make it to the festival. For more information about the festival, please visit www.ucc.org/children/.

Regional Coalition/ONA efforts

On July 24, 2009, from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm, at Ohio Wesleyan University, in Delaware, OH, you are invited to Snapshots and Strategies for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, and Queer Inclusion Across Denominations, sponsored by the Ohio Chapter of the UCC Coalition as a part of the pre-conference events at the Ohio Conference of the UCC Annual Meeting.  The Rev. Candace Chellew-Hodge will keynote and participate in a panel discussion with representatives of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the American Baptist Churches(U.S.A.), concerning the state of inclusion in various denominations. "For Faith, For Love, Forever" explores the debate on same-sex marriage in the African-American community. Despite media portrayals suggesting complete disapproval, ordained African-American pastors and ministers are given the opportunity at a Town Hall Meeting in Oakland, CA, to speak openly about their reasons for supporting the inclusion of same-sex couples, their rights to marry, and their being active members of their individual congregations. The For Faith, For Love, Forever Tour schedule will bring this film to cities around the country.

"Doing Our Own Work: A Seminar for Anti-Racist White People" will be offered by Melanie Morrison and Aaron Wilson-Ahlstrom, July 712, 2009, at Tower Hill Camp and Retreat Center in Sawyer, MI. For 15 consecutive years, "Doing Our Own Work" has a provided a unique context for white people who seek to deepen their commitment to confronting and challenging white racism. Offering more than 40 hours of “class time,” "Doing Our Own Work" equips white people with the analysis, skills, and tools needed to be more effective anti-racist allies with people of color and to help bring about institutional change. The next International Conference on LGBT Human Rights will be held at World Outgames 2009, in Copenhagen, Denmark, July 2729, 2009. The Outgames Conference is the premiere international LGBT conference dedicated to inviting anyone from throughout the world to propose workshops and/or attend the conference to engage in discussions and planning sessions to advance our collective human-rights efforts around the world.  It is a place to learn and to connect with LGBT activists from around the world, share the tools of our experiences, and become more engaged in global activism.
