The Equal marriage DVD "Tying the Knot"

"Our most recent General Synod has urged all in the UCC to prayerfully consider support of equal marriage for couples regardless of gender. The DVD, Tying the Knot, is a moving and informative resource for your setting's study and conversation about the relationship and rights of marriage. I urge you to see it and share it with others in your community."  Rev. Ann B. Day, ONA Program Coordinator, The UCC Coalition for LGBT Concerns.

With antigay activists and policy makers at all levels of government working against those of us that are fighting for equal rights, it is now more important than ever that we all come together for the fight for equal rights for all persons. Outcast Films is committed to this fight for basic human and civil rights and would like to offer United Church of Christ churches and settingsthe highly acclaimed film TYING THE KNOT byJim de Sève.

Three years in the making, Jim de Sève’s powerful documentary on same-sex marriage provides a much needed historical and legal perspective to the political war being waged in the nation today. By using archival footage, news clips, and heartfelt interviews, TYING THE KNOT examines the institution of marriage today and how it has changed through history: from a historical trip to the middle ages to gay hippies storming theManhattanmarriage bureau in 1971. This eye-opening exploration of the embattled institution looks at rights, privilege and love as gay activists and right-wing politicos lock horns in the fight for marriage.

"Same-sex marriage is the most widely discussed, legal issue in theUnited Statestoday.  Amidst all of that rhetoric lie the lives of real people. TYING THE KNOT shows you those lives.  It humanizes all of the law and religion and morality you read about in the newspapers or see on TV. TYING THE KNOT tells stories about how real people's lives are ripped apart because they cannot marry -- stories you will remember, stories that will change minds.  This movie could even change George Bush's mind.  If everyone in theUSsaw this movie, same-sex marriage would be a reality - tomorrow.  See it - and bring your 'undecided' friends."

William B. Rubenstein, Professor ofLawUCLASchoolof Law
