About the ONA Program

ONA is "shorthand" for Open and Affirming, the designation for congregations, campus ministries, and other bodies in the United Church of Christ which make public statements of welcome into their full life and ministry to persons of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions.

Note: This language reflects the change in ONA policy, effective July 14, 2010.

Open and Affirming: The Basics, provides an overview of the program and is a good place to start, if you are new to the program.

Recent program milestones include...

  • Over 820 active ONA congregations in the United Church of Christ
  • 30 out of 38 Conferences now have at least one ONA Consultant for their churches
  • Congregations of United Black Christians, The Fellowship, and Pacific-Islander/Asian-American Ministries have ONA Consultants
